Debate Blog # 5: Do the constant updates & upgrades of technology lessen their value & attraction?
For instance, we were discussing how the new iPhone 6 was very similar to other Android based phones. With the constant updates, are we less interested when they come out with the "newest & greatest"? Does price affect how we view these?
no i think the value of attraction will go up because when stores upgrade there tecnology more people want that upgrade and then the stores make more money so the value of attraction does not go down
Regarding consumer devices such as laptops, smartphones, tablets, etc., I do think the market has become a bit over-saturated with constant new hardware versions that make only minor or gimmicky improvements over the previous versions. Granted, technology is, in fact, improving at an increasingly rapid rate, but not quite as rapidly as many tech companies would like to have you believe.
I think value and attraction depends entirely on both the individual and the brand in question. There are certainly people who upgrade to the newest iteration of the iPhone every year simply because of the shininess factor, but the smart tech buyer knows that their device will be perfectly adequate for at least a few years before a hardware upgrade may be desired, thus the "latest & greatest" annual updates do not carry nearly the same appeal.
No. In fact, I think it increases their value/attraction. All the time I hear things like, "when is the new iphone coming out?" or "have you gotten the newest upgrade?". Although honestly, we don't need to have the newest whatever. We should at least appreciate the technology that we have right now instead of focusing on what will come out in the future.
The value doesn't decrease. They are just looking for new ways to make money. They like to keep up with the most up to date technology and that is why so many generations and upgrades exist.
the value doesnt increase or decrease. i think it all depends on how well the product is liked, how often its talked about. and the pieces used in the machine or product. look, sped, graphics are all factor in value.
I personally have watched all the new updated IPhones come and go just from the sidelines. Sometimes I think they have made a worth while improvement that really is helpful. But other times I think they are just adding something useless to get more money.
I think in some ways they do lose their attraction because there's really nothing that much different. But I don't think they really lose any value because these cell phones are a huge advantage to where we use to be with technology.
All in all I just get tired of hearing about the new iPhones coming out constantly when there's not much difference. So to me they lose attraction but not value.
I personally think that pricing has a lot to do with attraction. The newest technology being put out has new features, new updates etc. Take Beats by Dre. (Now owned by Apple) for example. Their headphones are good quality headphones, but are they really worth 300 dollars? The brand and the latest technology have a lot to do with attraction. The newer the technology the more the value goes up.
Bigger screens, more pixels, and updated systems. The companies that make new phones are focusing on making them better. Like with the new iPhone, the bigger screen. They are getting complaints (because you can't please everyone) and they are going to make new phones until everyone is happy and they get all the money, which will never happen
We are constantly each year getting bombarded with new Phones, Tablets, Computers ext...Some of which are a lot better than its predecessors. Although some times the difference between the new and other phones are not all that different. Their are always those people that have to have the new thing right when it comes out. Those are the people that companies thrive off of. Phone companies don't need to come out with new phones each year. Although I can understand that businesses need to make money and that's just how companies like apple make money. We don't need to go crazy about new phones like the Iphone 6 we can have some self control.
I think that new technology lessens the value of the older outdated technology and gives us new possibilities of improvement and advancement. With all the new technology it gives us new and easier ways to do things. New technology helps us in many ways. The only way new technology lessens the value of is the older technology. New technology is more active and more personalized to fit you so its hard not to like it more.
new technology does make older technology prices go down and it has good reason to they have more use and are better from gps to texting to video games from phones to cars newer is better and will cost more and trying to sell the older stuff
The quality of the technological product is a very important key into deciding weather it is increasing and decreasing in attraction & value. People value things that are going to look as good as they work. It seems that the more they try to "upgrade" it in one area it "downgrades" in another area. When we look at things like phones, we see the screen getting bigger, but the thickness lessens. And when the price goes up its hard to notice the quality in it. Because of supply and demand we assume when its expensive it must be high quality. It's not always the case.
i believe yes because thats is what internet companys were designed to do during the derpression we had an over stock of thing that neaded to be bought. with the newer model theory the more people will be in cline to by it and drop, sell , get rid of there other phones so the lower class consumers can afford products.
I think it depends on the person because with some people, they want to buy everything as soon as it comes out or as soon as possible. But some people don't even use half the features that they have so they don't care a crap about all of the new updated technology as long as they something decent to do work, homework, or entertainment.
I believe that upgrading brings the value of the product up quite a bit. Most people in society want the new thing, and if everyone has it, more people will want it. Majority of people cant afford these new devices, but when they see what they can do, they all want that product. It also is presented in a lot better way than it used to be.
Really, staying up to date with the new iPhones and whatever new releases come out is not at all smart financially. With such minimal improvements the tech doesn't seem as attractive because it isn't anything that new, or nearly as revolutionary as it seems. Likely the reason why they sell so well is because people want to stay updated with the trend.
