Topic: Perseverance
“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.”
― Maya Angelou
“Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”
― Thomas A. Edison
“Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow.”
― Mary Anne Radmacher
What are your thoughts on the quotes above? Do you agree/disagree? How so?
Do you have another quote that might go with the ones above?
I love these sorts of quotes; I agree with all of them full-heartedly! I'm all about that sort of ambitious determination and perseverance stuff. One of my favorite quotes that goes on along about the same lines is by William Shakespeare, from his play Measure for Measure:
ReplyDelete"Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt."
These quotes are really great. I completely agree with them. Not only does it give valuable insight to failure, success, and perseverance, it also seems to motivate me to not give up and to stay moving. Aristotle said something similar to these:
ReplyDelete"Quality is not an act, it is a habit."
These quotes show me that you can't always avoid defeat. Adding even more truth the quotes say it is necessary or the speaker gave up. If you lose a debate you get 2x the knowledge than the winner does.
ReplyDeleteI like these quotes because I've experienced first hand that every success comes from a series of mistakes. The only real failure is not trying to do anything at all. I believe that motivation and courage goes along with failure because anyone can fail and just give up, its the courageous and motivated ones that get back up and try again.
ReplyDelete"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." - Winston Churchill
"Failure is only the opportunity to begin again, only this time more wisely."- Henry Ford
As above i agree with these. "You have not failed till you give up" -(cant remember who) it just goes to show some of the best inventions this country and planet has ever seen because these people such as the weight brothers and the airplane and Thomas Edison and the lightbulb both supper great inventions and the cool thing is that they failed but they never gave up becuase they new that with each failure was one more piece of knowledge of how not to fail again. And with that small at the end of the day well there is always going to be a tomorrow "why give up today when you might succeed tomorrow" -cole there will always be people to barring down on you saying its impossible and the we should give up well impossible is only for those who give up becuase well they couldn't find the answer or solution so might as well spare others the trouble and pain. But really who cares you did your thing and i am doin mine maybe mine will be the one to succeed if not i have another day and new ideas to try.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of them. I love the concept of determination, perseverance, and courage in each. In the first one, I like how it says that you know yourself better because of a defeat. You know another weakness which means you'll probably find another strength just around the corner. But even if you don't find another strength, only a weakness, then you always have tomorrow. Like the one by Thomas Edison, you don't know how close you are to success with out trying again the next day. Who knows, maybe you'll get it right. Having courage in doing these things takes effort. You're going to have to try. Life is not easy. You can't only do the things you already know how to do. You never learn that way.
ReplyDeleteAnother quote by Thomas Edison: "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways it didn't work".
I agree with these quotes because that is how life is it will knock you down and some time all you can do is get back up and keep on going.
ReplyDeleteAnother quote like the ones above is "keep moving forward "
I agree with these quotes, you have to keep trying in life to succeed.
ReplyDeleteI really like those quotes.
ReplyDeleteI love inspirational quotes they are lesson in about two sentences. The first one I love because it is saying if you do not ever lose you will never know how good it feels to actually win at something losing is one of the ways to figure out yourself. The second one is kind of talking about how most people lose at something because it is hard even though they are so close to win. I think that the third one is probably my favorite though cause it is true, if you win at something you will not always get a humongous party or a beautiful bouquet of flowers sometimes it will just be a pat on the back and a "good job" or a thumbs up and you need to be alright with that. I found a quote that I absolutely love, "Try and fail but never fail to try." -unknown
ReplyDeleteI think these quotes are awesome it tells you what debate should be. i agree with these quotes because you could be very close to winning and just give up. and that you should not be defeated because you could encounter them all these quotes are awesome i love them sooooooooooo much
ReplyDeleteThese quotes are very meaningful and put forth knowledge into the readers head. I agree fully with these quotes. By telling the reader that losing is a way of life along with winning. But you cant really learn if u dont expirence the fall first. my favorite quote is. if you fall no matter how hard. you have to get up and avoid the fall.
ReplyDeleteI love these quotes! I do agree with them quite a lot actually. They are the type of quotes that are very inspirational. They bring forth a lot of passion and light to certain situations. A quote that would go along great with these is:
ReplyDelete"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something is more important than fear." -Ambrose Redmoon
I agree with all of the quotes. The one that Thomas Edison wrote spoke to me the most. He said something like he didn't fail a bunch of times at creating a light bulb--he just found about 10,000 ways not to make one.
ReplyDeleteWe should always persevere. It’s about how we overcome a challenge and continue on with life that is important. Never give up even in the face of a challenge.
ReplyDeletei love qoutes like this because it talks about something we all go through challenges. we all are challenge in one point of time or another and we wont alwas win but its not winning thats the victory its trying again the next day again and again until you succeed .
ReplyDeletei really like the qoutes i like the courage one i did that a lot one day when i could of done something then not at night i think what i could of done or will try again
ReplyDeleteI highly agree. These quotes mean a lot to me because I can relate to these. I have failed and fallen down so many times but I can always seem to pull myself back up and try again. Because we are not our failures. Our failures tear us down but once we get back up we can kick the mistake in the butt and prove to ourselves that we are better than our failures.
ReplyDeleteFailure to try is the only fail there is. I agree wholeheartedly with these quotes. Here's a quote I find that fits in with the quotes above:
ReplyDelete“These are the times that try men's souls...Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value." -Thomas Paine, The Crisis
Thomas Paine is saying that things that are easy are not as valuable to us as the things at which we really have to work.
i really like these quotes, Thomas Edison's is my favorite.
